Up for sale is my copy of the Golden Cockerel Press edition of The Canterbury Tales in four volumes. It is widely recognized as one of the high points of 20th Century printing. The wood-engravings made by Eric Gill are absolutely stunning and the shear quantity of them makes this edition almost feel like an illuminated manuscript. Breath-taking stuff.
The books are in very good condition. There are no stains or tears and the bindings are good. I never opened any volume to more than 100 degrees or so. I have tried to picture the books to the best of my ability so you should be able to get a good sense by looking at the photographs.
I bought this set from the Heritage Book Shop in Los Angeles and this auction includes the original receipt as pictured. It cost me $4,000.00 plus tax in 1997. I have set a Buy it now at $7,200.00. After some searching I found one copy for sale at $12,000 and another offered at British Pound 7,000 (around $13,000 at www.maggs.com/title/MO44615.asp).
I will ship to anywhere in the USA for $80.00 insured. Shipping to Great Britain, Europe, Canada, or Japan will be $120.00 insured and buyer will be responsible for any duties that might be payable.
