What is steampunk ?

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates retrofuturistic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. It is a blend of the romanticism of the Victorian era with the addition of steam-powered technology. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American "Wild West," where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Here are some key features of steampunk:

Steam power: Steam is a central element of steampunk. The technology featured in this universe is generally just as advanced as that of our modern world, but it uses steam as its energy source instead of electricity, gas, or oil.
Retrofuturistic technology: Steampunk features modern technology with a retro look, inspired by the fashions of the Victorian era in England (1837-1901), but also by the art nouveau design and films from the mid-20th century.
-Fantasy elements: Steampunk works often include fantastical elements, such as airships, automatons, and other steam-powered machines that don't exist in the real world.
The term "steampunk" was first used in 1987 by science fiction author K.W. Jeter to describe the Victorian-style speculative fiction being written at the time, as an alternative to the very high-tech futuristic style known as "cyberpunk". Today, steampunk has expanded beyond literature to include movies, television shows, video games, art, fashion, and music.
