Boston

Boston is a city in Massachusetts, United States, and one of the nation's oldest municipalities. It was founded in 1630 by Puritan settlers from the English town of the same name. The name "Boston" is said to be derived from an old British saint named Botolph, who lived in the middle of the seventh century. The city played a significant role in the American Revolution and the nation's founding, with several key events taking place there, including the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. During the 19th century, Boston flourished culturally, with members of old Boston families, eventually dubbed Boston Brahmins, coming to be regarded as the nation's social and cultural elites. The city has earned several nicknames over the years, including "Beantown" and "The Hub". The word "Boston" itself is of French origin, derived from the city's name.
